On Quantales and Spectra of C*-Algebras

چکیده
We study functorial properties of the quantale spectrum MaxA of an arbitrary unital C*-algebra A. In particular we show that the spatialization of MaxA with respect to one of the notions of spatiality in the literature yields the locale of closed ideals of A when A is commutative. We study under general conditions functors with this property, in addition requiring that inductive limits be preserved, and we conclude in this case that the spectrum of A necessarily coincides with the locale of closed ideals of the commutative reflection of A. We prove that Max is not an equivalence of categories, therefore not providing a generalization of Gelfand duality to the noncommutative case, but we also leave open the possibility of finding such a generalization by proving that Max is a faithful complete invariant of unital C*-algebras.

Extending Obstructions to Noncommutative Functorial Spectra
Any functor from the category of C*-algebras to the category of locales that assigns to each commutative C*-algebra its Gelfand spectrum must be trivial on algebras of n-by-n matrices for n ≥ 3. This obstruction also applies to other spectra such as those named after Zariski, Stone, and Pierce. We extend these no-go results to functors with values in (ringed) topological spaces, (ringed) topose...
متن کاملGirard Couples of Quantales
We introduce the concept of a Girard couple, which consists of two (not necessarily unital) quantales linked by a strong form of duality. The two basic examples of Girard couples arise in the study of endomorphism quantales and of the spectra of operator algebras. We construct, for an arbitrary sup-lattice S, a Girard quantale whose right-sided part is isomorphic to S.
متن کاملThe Bicategory of m-regular Involutive Quantales
Recently the theory of Morita equivalence for involutive quantales and the notion of the interior tensor products of Hilbert modules over involutive quantales evolved considerably (see e.g. Paseka, 2002 and Paseka, 2001). The present paper is an attempt to put a part of this theory in a broader context of the bicategory of m-regular involutive quantales. For facts concerning quantales in genera...
متن کاملTropological systems are points of quantales
We address two areas in which quantales have been used. One is of a topological nature, whereby quantales or involutive quantales are seen as generalized noncommutative spaces, and its main purpose so far has been to investigate the spectrum of noncommutative C*-algebras. The other sees quantales as algebras of abstract experiments on physical or computational systems, and has been applied to t...
متن کامل00 2 Sup - lattice 2 - forms and quantales ∗
A 2-form between two sup-lattices L and R is defined to be a suplattice bimorphism L×R → 2. Such 2-forms are equivalent to Galois connections, and we study them and their relation to quantales, involutive quantales and quantale modules. As examples we describe applications to C*-algebras.
